📜 A Brief History
Nannup is a historic timber town that grew from the logging industry in the late 1800s. The name “Nannup” comes from the Noongar Aboriginal word meaning “stopping place” or “place of many streams.” The town was officially gazetted in 1890 and became an important center for the jarrah timber industry.
Today, Nannup is a charming heritage town surrounded by ancient karri and jarrah forests, rolling farmland, and the Blackwood River. It serves as a gateway to the surrounding forests and is popular with tourists seeking a peaceful rural escape, wildflower viewing in spring, and access to nearby attractions like the Bibbulmun Track and Munda Biddi Trail.
